The big news from Microsoft’s annual partner event, Inspire 2021 (14-16 July) is that everyone is talking about the launch of a new member of the 365 family, Windows 365.

On reflection this is a logical step by Microsoft 365 and looks to offer a Software-as-a-Service solution for the complete desktop.

Following our initial excitement, we’ve dug a bit deeper and found some great content which will really help Microsoft CSP partners get their head around this exciting announcement. We found the Windows 365 innovation story interesting and informative, and there’s also a wealth of content from Microsoft on their Modernize Endpoints page.

Last month saw the announcement of the change of name from Windows Virtual Desktop to Azure Virtual Desktop, along with the release of new features. So, we wondered what Microsoft’s master plan was and how they envisage it all fitting together. We found Kan VedBrat’s blog New ways to deliver a secure hybrid workplace with Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 helps answer this question.

Windows 365 is a Software-as-a-Service solution. You do not have to be a virtualisation expert or even interact with Azure Portal to use it. We understand that there are also plans for an offline mode, but this will not be included in the initial release.

Windows 365 will use Azure Virtual Desktop ‘personal desktops’ and that means a single VM per user rather than a multi session server. End users will login to a portal, with most users having just one Windows 365 account (although multiple are possible). Windows 365 will give Admins extra features such as user management.

Windows 365 is anticipated to launch for the CSP programme on 2 August 2021, and as soon as Microsoft makes it available via CSP, Windows 365 will be available for Vuzion Partners to buy through our control panel, Vuzion CORE.

Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, presented a very clear message in his Inspire keynote of ‘One Cloud’ - that Microsoft’s cloud is the best and broadest in the market.

We are confident that we’ll be talking about Windows 365 a great deal, so expect a webinar in the Vuzion EDGE training programme soon!
