Microsoft Azure RI, Windows SQL Server subscriptions announcement

Microsoft has announced the immediate availability of Azure Reserved Virtual Machine Instances (Azure RI), along with availability of Windows Server and SQL Server subscriptions, through the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) programme, and Vuzion is delighted to be the first CSP Indirect Provider in the UK and Ireland to make these new services available to resellers!

An Azure RI is a one- or three-year pre-purchase of compute resources, that provide savings of up to 72 percent compared to pay-as-you-go Azure Virtual Machines (VM). If combined with the new Windows Server subscription this saving can be up to 82 percent via Azure Hybrid Benefits, previously only available as a Software Assurance benefit.

Gavriella Schuster, Microsoft Corporate Vice President, One Commercial Partner, says, “While working to ensure the best overall value for customers, we’re also making Azure RI and server subscriptions more attractive for our partners’ business models.

“For example, straightforward licensing of Azure RI and server subscriptions will enable partners to obtain more cost predictability and a streamlined sales process. In addition, our business model does not require partners to deploy complex processes and tools to procure, manage, and price RIs across their customers. Partners can now choose to increase their time and resources on winning new business with an expanded portfolio of IT management value-added cloud solutions.”

In addition to the significant cost savings for customers, Azure RIs include the ability to:

  • Exchange instances, family, location, and term length at any time
  • Be assigned to a single subscription or multiple subscriptions within a customer tenant
  • Cancel at any time during the term of the reservation
  • Enjoy prioritised compute capacity

The release of Windows Server and SQL Server subscriptions in CSP include Azure Hybrid Benefits that enable customers currently without Software Assurance on their Microsoft licenses to maximise their savings on Microsoft server workloads.

Microsoft has introduced a new commercial model, which changes the wholesale margin and rebate model that is standard for Azure today, with a substantially reduced upfront margin and independent rebate structure, for all eligible partners (minimum Silver Cloud Platform competency required).
