Customers across the globe have already been able to experience many of the new releases in Microsoft’s autumn 2017 – ‘Fall’ – Windows 10 Creators Update.

Below, some of the updates are discussed:

Photos

Windows 10’s free photo app has received a “reimagining”, as described by Microsoft, enabling users to add various elements to photos and videos – including filters, text, 3D effects and digital ink.

Mixed Reality

Microsoft’s virtual reality (VR) release supports a range of dedicated headsets that can be plugged into a compatible PC to run apps in a Mixed Reality VR environment – enabling travel “across time and space” without leaving home. With the Mixed Reality Viewer, users can bring 3D objects (those created in Paint 3D included) into a real-world environment.

Microsoft Edge

Edge changes include updates to Favourites, facilitating easier organisation for bookmarks, and a new annotation system which enables users to highlight in different colours, underline, copy and annotate comments. A new virtual narrator system is available, and information requests to Cortana can be made for content without needing to leave the document.

Gaming

Gamers will be able to see whether or not they meet game requirements via Task Manager’s hardware and system performance graphics, while Xbox has new help options for networking, speeded up Mixer broadcasting, and Game Mode can be accessed from the Game bar.

My People

Contacts can be pinned to the taskbar, with one-click access available via various communication apps, and shared through the dragging of a file to the contact in the taskbar – with emojis putting in an appearance, if required …

Other updates

Cortana can be requested to shut down, restart a PC, or put it to sleep, and instructed to forward content from an iPhone or Android phone to a PC, with currency converter built into the calculator.

Microsoft maintains that security has been enhanced with Windows Defender Antivirus and the new Windows Defender Exploit Guard providing improved protection against ransomware, while a Microsoft Tips app has been introduced to help guide users through Windows 10.
