The latest developments for Microsoft Teams include a feature for employees to share their location with the rest of the workforce, and it is also now possible for managers to praise members of staff for their achievements.
Social media networks are very much the trend-setters when it comes to the digital workplace, and one of their major elements has now arrived in Teams - the ability to share your location with other people.
Teams can be tailored to meet an individual employee's precise needs and responsibilities, and this will only allow them to publicise their location to those who have the authority to see it.
The feature integrates perfectly with a smartphone or tablet camera, and the hardware inside the device will calculate the precise location, streamlining the whole process. If one employee needs to quickly inform their colleagues about where they are currently working, this will automate a task that might have traditionally involved sending numerous messages or creating a group chat.
This motivational tool could literally be a game-changer in terms of micro-management and motivation. Leaders who are connected to Teams will now be able to send messages of congratulations and even achievement badges to frontline workers who they are responsible for, and these accolades will be visible to the whole team.
Perhaps the best way to think about it is as a digital version of the 'Employee Of The Month' board, but with a far greater amount of flexibility as it allows managers to show instant gratitude without having to wait for a more formal appraisal or assessment.
It is already well-known that the simplest gestures can have the greatest amount of impact, and Teams has made it possible to motivate people with just a tap of a button.
In another exciting announcement, Microsoft has also confirmed that Teams now includes Graph API For Shifts. In business environments that include a workforce management system, members of staff will now be able to access the information that they need to carry out their role without leaving the Teams app.
Microsoft developers are also keen for Teams users to know that voice messages can be recorded while sharing a location - an ideal feature for moments when it is difficult to type one out. Conversations can also be neatly organised in one window, and features have now been added to customise the layout of the integrated navigation menu as well.
