Microsoft's Azure cloud computing platform continues to go from strength to strength with each passing month, and so we thought that this would be an ideal opportunity to summarise everything announced for Azure since mid-December 2018.
Cloud Commercial Communities Webinar and podcast update
These sessions provide a fascinating insight into how Azure is developing by bringing together the latest news from Microsoft and its partner companies. Among the latest highlights is the 'Azure Marketplace and AppSource Publisher Onboarding and Support' webinar, showing publishers the onboarding process, the best practices for getting around common blockers, and extra resources that are available to support users in this area.
If your customers are involved with the healthcare sector, then the 'Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning – what does it mean for healthcare?' podcast is a worthwhile listen, and it is led by Microsoft's very own David Houlding. Find the webinars here.
Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) with customer-managed keys for Managed Instance
Microsoft's Azure SQL Database Managed Instance now has support (in the 'preview' stage) for Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) with Bring Your Own Key (BYOK), and yet again this is a fantastic example of their developers responding to feedback from the users of the feature. All of this adds an extra layer of protection for data, allowing businesses to demonstrate they are actively following compliance laws and regulations in their home nation.
This feature utilises Azure Key Vault, allowing users to retain full control over the encryption of their data.
Azure PowerShell ‘Az’ Module version 1.0
This exciting update allows the end user to take full advantage of the processing power of PowerShell Core and Cloud Shell, and it is fully compatible with Windows PowerShell 5.1. The 'Az' module brings the latest Azure tooling on every possible platform, and also Azure PowerShell cmdlet and module names are simplified and normalised by it.
Over the course of 2019, it will be updated at two-weekly intervals, meaning that there will be plenty more improvements in the coming months.
Cognitive Services Speech SDK 1.2 – December update – Python, Node.js/NPM and other improvements
The new Python API is the main focus of this update, and Node.js and Linux support have also seen some positive changes. The SDK has been streamlined, and server connectivity has been improved.
