Microsoft Azure | October 2018 Updates

Updates to Microsoft Azure, continue apace this autumn. Here’s a summary of what we think you need to know:

Access Control Service to be retired, with the option to extend until February 2019

This service, known as ACS, is being retired. If you want an extension, this can be granted until February 4 2019 – but you’ll need to apply by November 7, and there will be no further extensions. So, if you use ACS, you’ll need a migration strategy, even if you ask for more time, and this will probably require coding changes.

More healthcare AI start-ups in the cloud

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) healthcare IT market for hospitals is estimated to grow to more than $4bn by 2022, with similarly explosive growth predicted for other healthcare segments, too.

Microsoft Azure can help start-ups in this sector meet their goals and offer more help to healthcare organisations. It’s issued new advice on running lean, staying agile, adopting the new technology quickly and growing fast.

How insurers can use machine learning (ML)

Insurance companies can use ML to enhance many aspects of their operations, from customer service to fraud detection to increased efficiency, or, for example, to assess accidental damage or identify billing anomalies.

How banks can use cloud-based technology screening solutions

There are many reasons why banks should consider cloud-based solutions, and Microsoft Azure has issued a reminder of them:

• These solutions can provide screening against multiple watch lists
• Enhanced security with intelligent, adaptive and lexical screening
• The industry’s lowest rate of false positive alerts • User-friendly and exact real-time screening
• Integrate multiple business systems seamlessly
• Streamline operations with intuitive alert management tools
• Graphical dashboards displaying levels of risk
• Having security and privacy embedded at every stage
• Flexible options for considerations

At the same time, you’ll enjoy broad cloud compliance meeting various national and global standards.

Using Microsoft Azure for insights from industrial IoT data

If you work in the manufacturing industry, you probably face massive amounts of data – and may not be sure how to best use all of it.

Microsoft Azure’s advice is to start small, and it has also issued a guide to choosing the best tech from the Azure platform. Read it here: https://download.microsoft.com/download/0/1/5/0150425C-14C7-41F4-97EA-3DE57B678C51/IndSG_iotExt.pdf

AI blueprint for healthcare

While Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform healthcare, from streamlining to helping with clinical diagnoses, there can be a reluctance to get started, either because of the perceived high cost or a lack of experience in this area.

A new AI blueprint from Azure covering healthcare helps organisations to run and manage AI experiments, offering organisations a quick kick-start in this area.

At the same time, Azure has outlined how organisations can use its service to reduce blob storage costs. Read the blueprint and learn more here: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/blog/cooling-down-storage-costs-in-the-healthcare-ai-blueprint/
