Microsoft Azure | September 2018 Updates

This past month has been full of Azure updates. Here’s the roundup of updates since the 20th August.

Azure Site Recovery lets you migrate severs with ease

January 2020 will see the end of support for Windows Server 2008, so there’s never been a better time to take advantage of the power of Microsoft Azure. Moving to Azure helps to modernise applications and infrastructure, but there’s still going to be support available for those business apps that are still pending digital transformation.

The great news is that you now have the option to migrate those servers running Windows Server 2008 to Azure, and still receive extended security updates for three years past the end of the current support date. This support comes at no additional cost. You can set up storage accounts in your Azure subscription, then the Azure Site Recovery replicates the data allowing you to migrate whenever you’re ready. Azure Site Recovery supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2008.

Azure Blockchain Workbench 1.3.0 now available

Microsoft’s blockchain development solution has had another of its regular updates. With Azure Blockchain Workbench 1.3.0 you’ll experience:

Greater speed and reliability for deployment

Better transaction reliability

Simpler pre-deployment script for AAD

Sample code and tools for working with the Workbench API

The most notable update is that you can now deploy Workbench in a multi-member Ethereum PoA consortium. This builds on the 1.2.0 release which introduced the ability to deploy Workbench and connect it to an existing Ethereum-based network. Cognitive Services Speech SDK Version 0.6.0

Early adopters of Azure reported several minor bugs with the speech services, particularly around long-running speech transcriptions. This update addresses those successfully, along with several other useful improvements. Support has been added for java on Windows 10 (x64) and Linux (x64), and some additional support has been integrated for the Linux platform with .NET Standard 2.0.

Users of Speech Devices SDK will find updates just for them as well. The custom keyword spotting feature’s KeywordRecognitionModel function now supports several different extension types in the zip format.
