Firstly, as Microsoft detailed last month, the Whiteboard app is out of preview and is generally available for Windows 10. This handy programme allows users to create their own virtual whiteboard for notes — adding and editing it as ideas take shape and evolve. It works very well for keyboard, pen and touch, and each whiteboard can be huddled around physically, or accessed and added to remotely. All ideas and boards are saved to the cloud, so users will never have to worry about space.
Improved OneDrive Activity Centre
Updates have been made to Activity Centre in OneDrive — the place to go for your OneDrive status updates or synchronisation. Now it boasts excellent battery-saving features for Windows devices, which will pause sync when they enter low power mode (FYI - users can stop this function if they'd prefer).
Nudges for MyAnalytics
MyAnalytics is a useful tool for any person that wants to use time more constructively. From now on, the programme will give friendly reminders to keep on track with certain tasks and set aside time where necessary. It's particularly useful if there are a lot of meetings that need to be balanced around other work, as well as for to-do lists and emails.
Also announced was Kaizala, a new app for Apple and Android. Designed to allow field workers to stay in the loop with headquarters instead of having to call or ask for updates from colleagues, Kaizala integrates them into office announcements and allows for one-to-one or group chats. It's great for work management, security and communication. Currently, it is only available in a certain number of regions.
Filters and splicers for Power BI
Filters and splicers can now be applied to report sharing on Power BI, so colleagues don't have to explain a configuration or take screenshots when they share a report. It will display perfectly every time.
Live Events allow users and online communities an engaging insight into a given app or topic. These capabilities will now be coming to Yammer, Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Stream, with users able to create and deliver their own live events. The move comes as part of Microsoft's wide-ranging integration across their 365 suite and is perfect for news communication across organisations and other inter-office matters. These updates allow for studio-quality live events, viewed across apps and devices.
Microsoft Stream will offer particular advantages, including the detection of facial expressions to allow for easy jumps to a given speaker during an event.
Analytics for Workplace
Workplace Analytics is the equivalent of MyAnalytics — but instead of for individuals, it covers the entire workplace. Expect team-oriented dashboards, prioritisation tips, meeting updates and action plan analysis. It's now available as an add-on for any enterprise plan for Microsoft 365.
