Office 365 is one of the most widely utilised pieces of software in the world today, it’s constantly being updated and improved to provide the best possible user experience. We take a deep dive into the latest updates as the start of 2018 was no exception to this trend for innovation and invention.
Let’s take a look at the latest feature releases for the Office 365 suite to see some of the most exciting updates for you to trial:
Microsoft Teams - New ways to interact
Some of the most important new features in Microsoft Teams enable users to utilise apps in new and innovative ways. Helping to make it an even more powerful hub for teamwork, the brains behind Teams have ensured that you can now take quick actions from your command box, as well as add apps to your personal space. Interestingly, you can also insert interactive cards into conversations, in the same way you might add a GIF or emoji. This means that with a single click, you can import information such as a task from Trello into a channel chat. Finding apps and services has been made simpler too, thanks to a new store that allows you to search for these by either name or category.
Microsoft Stream channel embed code
If you wish to display a channel on a page outside of Stream, you now have the ability to do this as well. With embed codes available for the entire channel as well as the videos it contains, this will make sharing your content much easier.
Anomaly detection policy update
Additionally, Cloud app security has been updated, with new default policies being developed based on the cases that the existing general anomaly detection policy covers. The current technology will be disabled once this is introduced so that the new and improved version can take over from it.
Hide, share and mute chats
There are certain Skype for Business messaging capabilities that have been introduced to Teams too. These include the abilities to hide, share and mute chats.
Azure Advanced Threat Protection
Although it has not yet been released, an Azure Advanced Threat Protection for Users is also being developed. This new cloud service will give the Security Operations team the power to detect and explore advanced attacks and insider threats across all users and entities within your network. This means that even the most demanding security analytics workloads can be accommodated, this will ensure your enterprise is properly protected at all times.
Lastly, you’ll be benefitting from the creation of Consultative Transfer. This enables those transferring calls to confirm their call destination before completing the action.
Together, these updates are intended to help you achieve the following:
✔ Communicate more effectively
✔ Enjoy increased chat functionality
✔ Experience more effective meetings and calls
✔ Collaborate more easily and efficiently
Office and Windows servicing and support
Changes have also been made to certain areas of Office and Windows with the intention of improving service and support. Aiming to help create a secure and more productive workplace for its commercial customers, these include updates on the Windows system requirements for Office 365 ProPlus. This means that from January 14 2020, ProPlus will no longer be supported on:
✔ Windows 10 LTSC releases
✔ Windows Server 2016 and older
✔ Windows 8.1 and older
It is hoped that this will ensure regular and coordinated updates across the board to create a secure environment able to support the latest capabilities.
Flow integration for Microsoft Teams
In order to complement the recent app use updates to Microsoft Teams, Flow has been integrated too. This will enable users to create and manage flows, respond to their sent and received approvals, and launch their flows through Flow Bot. All of this can be easily achieved by downloading the Flow app from the Teams’ Store.
