August updates for Microsoft's Enterprise Mobility and Security (EM+S) technology work to support the latest service updates, and offer convenient functionality to Microsoft customers, admins and developers.
Azure Information Protection Status
The move to Azure Portal is now complete, and admins can edit templates linked to labels. “Once 'Edit Template' is clicked, the template becomes protection attributes of the label.”
The ability to activate the Azure RMS protection service has moved into the 'General Availability' section, and businesses can localise legacy RMS templates by importing and exporting on the 'Languages' page to manage translations - in the same way as with labels.
Microsoft has also included the ability to edit the default templates, including localisation, which can be done in the same way as with any other template. The default policy is translated into each of the 30 languages supported by Azure Information Protection, although only new tenants will automatically receive these translations. A public preview of a new feature, User Defined Permissions, is available, and Microsoft has extended their automatic classification automation capabilities from five to over 80 patterns by moving to the Office DLP rules. Forty of these patterns are relevant for the upcoming EU introduction of GDPR.
Update 1708 for Configuration Manager Technical Preview Branch
Now available in the Configuration Manager console, this new update allows users to try out new Configuration Manager features in a test environment, prior to general availability. August's new preview features include useful abilities which enable admins to restart other computers with a client notification from their console and create and run scripts with optional parameters to devices and collections.
Software centre customisation is also now in play - allowing businesses to specify the visibility of tabs, as well as add enterprise branding elements. Organisations can also add a specific company name for Software Center, and there are useful extras including colour themes, logos and the visibility of tabs for client devices. A Software Center specific company name can also be added, along with a colour theme, company logo, and the visibility of tabs for client devices set.
Azure AD - Changes to the Token Lifetime Defaults
As part of combating the ongoing issues with unnecessary sign-in prompts, Microsoft is making improvements to how refresh token lifetimes are managed. New defaults will apply to new Azure AD tenants, including 90-day refresh token inactivity, until-revoked single/multi-factor Refresh Token Max Age, and the same for confidential clients.
Documentation for Azure Information Protection
Finally, there is also a wealth of updates to Azure Information Protection Documentation (the full list can be found on the Microsoft EM+S blog site), including in Quick Start Tutorial, under the hood info, protection policies and label configuration.
